Bhubaneswar: Tension gripped Utkal University Campus here after a group of students protested a professor while he was giving a lecture at a seminar at PG Council Hall on the varsity premises on Sunday.
JNU professor Surajit Majumdar faced wrath of some students for allegedly giving some statements against the constitution. A group of students from ABVP opposed the seminar and tried to stop the event which triggered tension.
Heated arguments were exchanged between the organizers and students that led to a fight in which two were injured. Both the sides have registered separate complaints at Sahid Nagar police station.
According to sources, Citizen Forum had organized a seminar with JNU professor as a guest. During the seminar titles ‘Constitution And National Education Policy’, the professor was delivering his speech which didn’t go down well with a section of students present there.
Some student activists allegedly attacked the Citizen Forum convener and a lecturer and asked them to stop the programme. They alleged that anti-nation remarks were given during the seminar talk.
“We will not allow any such statements against the country. We will continue to oppose such programme in future,” a student said.
