Odisha Vigilance arrested a section officer from Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for taking a bribe to process an application related to GNM student training.
Officials said Anit Kumar Guru, Section Officer at the office of CDM & PHO, Jharsuguda, demanded Rs 2,500 from a teacher of a General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) Training School to approve the attachment of students at the PHC/CHC level for practical training in the 2026–27 session.
The teacher, unwilling to pay, alerted Vigilance authorities. Acting on the complaint, a team trapped Guru while accepting the bribe. Officers recovered the entire tainted amount from his possession and seized it as evidence.
Sources revealed that Guru had allegedly been harassing nursing schools in the district, repeatedly demanding money to process similar applications. Following the arrest, Vigilance teams launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked to him to examine disproportionate assets.
Rourkela Vigilance Police registered Case No. 02 dated April 22, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. An investigation is underway to determine the extent of Guru’s involvement and identify other possible links.
