TCS Nashik Harassment Case: HR Official Allegedly Asked Employee to ‘Drop It’, 8 Arrested

A serious workplace harassment case has emerged at a Nashik unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where a woman employee alleged sexual harassment and institutional negligence. The case has led to the arrest of eight individuals, including a senior HR official.

Employee Alleges Harassment and Lack of Support

The complainant, a contractual employee working at the Nashik branch for three years, accused a team leader, Raza Memon, of repeated inappropriate behavior. According to her statement, the accused allegedly attempted physical advances, stalked her, and pressured her to remain silent.

The employee further claimed that despite reporting the issue verbally to senior staff, including a training manager, she was advised to “stay cautious” rather than being offered formal support or escalation.

HR Official’s Response Under Scrutiny

The situation intensified when the employee approached HR for intervention. Allegedly, a senior HR official advised her to avoid attention and “drop the matter,” raising concerns about workplace accountability and employee safety.

This response has drawn criticism, highlighting gaps in internal grievance redressal mechanisms and the importance of safe reporting environments for all employees.

Retaliation and Workplace Harassment Escalation

Following the complaint, the accused allegedly retaliated by spreading false rumours about the complainant’s personal life and relationships within the office. The employee also reported being subjected to increased work pressure through manipulation of internal systems, allegedly designed to cause mental distress.

These actions, if proven, point to a pattern of targeted harassment and workplace intimidation.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Authorities have taken swift action, with eight individuals arrested so far in connection with the case. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by Nashik Police to probe multiple complaints related to harassment and workplace misconduct at the unit.

Company Responds

Tata Consultancy Services stated that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards harassment. The company also clarified that no formal complaint had been registered through its internal channels prior to the incident coming to light.

Broader Implications for Workplace Safety

This case has reignited discussions around workplace safety, employee protection, and the effectiveness of internal complaint mechanisms in large organizations. Experts emphasize the need for inclusive, transparent, and responsive systems that empower individuals to report misconduct without fear of retaliation.
