The District-Level Folk Dance Competition 2026–27 was held at Dhenkanal Science Centre, bringing together eight school teams that had already won at the block level across Dhenkanal district.
The event was organised by Dhenkanal Science Centre, a unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the District Education Office, Dhenkanal, under the School and Mass Education Department, Government of Odisha.
M.M. Rout, District Science Officer, Dhenkanal Science Centre, inaugurated the programme along with Biswajit Mishra, District Science Supervisor. In his opening remarks, Mr Rout explained the rules of the contest, wished the teams well, and urged students to protect and promote Odisha’s folk dance traditions.
The eight participating teams represented winning entries from different blocks of the district. After the performances, the results were announced as follows:
- First: Panchayat Raj High School, Kanapura, Kamakshyanagar
- Second: Sri Aurobindo Integral Centre of Education, Matrubhumi, Barada
- Third: PM SHRI B.B. High School, Dhenkanal
Trophies and certificates were presented to the winning teams during the valedictory ceremony. All participants received certificates of participation. Biswajit Mishra proposed the vote of thanks.
Shankar Gurung, Education Assistant at Dhenkanal Science Centre, coordinated the programme.
The contest underlined the Centre’s dual role as a science institution and a platform for school-level cultural outreach, giving young performers a district stage for Odisha’s living folk forms.
