Iran’s Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf will not attend the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi due to “unforeseen circumstances,” the Iranian Embassy in India announced on Saturday.
Embassy Statement and High-Level Representation
The embassy confirmed that Ghalibaf, who serves as Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly, would be unable to lead the Iranian delegation in person for the meeting of speakers from BRICS member countries. However, the embassy clarified that an official Iranian parliamentary delegation will participate in the forum as scheduled.
In an official statement, the embassy reaffirmed Iran’s dedication to the multilateral grouping:
“As one of the members of BRICS, Iran reaffirms its commitment to active and effective participation at the highest levels in the summits and meetings of this grouping. In this regard, the Iranian delegation will continue its dialogue and consultations with delegations from BRICS member countries, with a view to expanding and deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of parliamentary relations and cooperation.”
Appreciation to Host Nation
Expressing gratitude to the host nation, the Iranian Embassy extended its appreciation to the Government of India for its warm hospitality and host arrangements. The statement concluded with wishes for a successful forum that yields constructive outcomes toward strengthening engagement among BRICS member states.
