Just days after launching its highly anticipated $1,999 iPhone Duo, Apple Inc. is facing growing customer complaints over severe inner display failures.
Affected users report hearing a crunching sound upon unfolding the device, followed by a large crack forming along the centre crease and display bruising.
The issue, verified across social media platforms and independent Bloomberg reporting, represents an embarrassing hurdle for Apple’s first foray into the foldable smartphone market.
Hardware repair site iFixit suggested the flaw likely stems from a mechanical hinge component failing under pressure rather than a defect in the display panel itself.
In an official statement, the Cupertino tech giant acknowledged it was “aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units.” Apple urged affected customers to contact AppleCare for a replacement device, noting that the defect manifests quickly in affected units while most devices remain unimpacted.
Despite Apple’s swift customer service response, several users reported delays in securing replacement units due to limited retail inventory at Apple Stores.
Industry analysts note that while first-generation hardware often faces a steep learning curve, Apple’s transparent replacement policy is a critical first step to containing potential brand fallout.
