India will play their final AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifier against Hong Kong at Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on March 31.
The match, though a dead rubber with both teams already eliminated, carries importance as FIFA ranking points remain at stake.
This fixture marks India’s third different home venue in the final round of qualifiers. Shillong hosted the clash against Bangladesh last March, while Margao staged the game against Singapore last October. Kochi now joins the list, hosting the national team for the first time in 10 years.
The last time the Blue Tigers played in Kerala was in March 2016, when they faced Turkmenistan in a FIFA World Cup qualifier. Fans in Kochi are expected to turn out in large numbers to support the team, making the occasion a significant return for Indian football to the football-loving state.
India, already out of contention for the Asian Cup, will aim to finish their campaign on a high with a victory. Hong Kong, also eliminated, will look to salvage pride in their final outing.
