A snake catcher from Sunabeda in Koraput district attempted suicide by forcing a snake to bite him following a family quarrel.
The man, identified as Rahul, reportedly engaged in a heated argument with his wife before resorting to the extreme act.
A video of the incident has gone viral, showing Rahul holding the snake and pressing it against his hand to inject venom. After the bite, he released the snake and collapsed. Locals rushed him to Jeypore Medical College, where he is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
Police sources confirmed that the incident stemmed from domestic discord. Authorities are investigating the circumstances while doctors continue efforts to stabilise his condition.
The shocking act has sparked widespread discussion in the region, highlighting the dangers of emotional distress and the need for awareness around mental health and family counselling.
