India and the United States have signed the Pax Silica declaration, marking what officials described as a “historic milestone” in bilateral cooperation on artificial intelligence (AI) and supply chain security.

The agreement was formalised on the sidelines of the Global AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, further strengthening strategic technology ties between the two nations.

What Is Pax Silica?

Pax Silica is the flagship initiative of the United States Department of State focused on artificial intelligence and secure supply chains. The initiative aims to advance economic security cooperation among trusted partners and allies.

According to the US State Department, the declaration underscores that reliable supply chains are indispensable to mutual economic security. It also recognises AI as a transformative force for long-term prosperity and highlights the importance of trustworthy AI systems in safeguarding shared interests.

The joint statement affirms a shared commitment to advancing mutual prosperity, technological progress and economic resilience.

Countries Supporting the Initiative

Signatories to the Pax Silica Declaration include Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, the UAE and the UK.

Non-signatory participants include Canada, the Netherlands, the European Union, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Taiwan.

India’s participation expands the coalition’s footprint in the Indo-Pacific region and signals a broader consensus on responsible AI governance and secure technology supply chains.

India’s AI Commitments Announced

During the summit, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also unveiled the New Delhi Frontier AI Commitments. He described them as a significant outcome of the AI Impact Summit 2026.

The commitments form a voluntary framework adopted by leading global and Indian AI companies. The initiative promotes inclusive and shared AI development while encouraging responsible innovation and collaboration across borders.

Why This Matters

The India–US Pax Silica declaration reflects a growing alignment on AI governance, supply chain resilience and economic security. As AI continues to shape global industries, partnerships of this scale are expected to influence regulatory standards, innovation ecosystems and international cooperation frameworks.

The agreement positions India as a key stakeholder in shaping the future of trusted and secure AI systems globally.
