Odisha will face a severe heatwave as temperatures rise by 4–6°C between April 12 and 14, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The state will experience sultry weather conditions as Kalabaisakhi weakens.

Daytime temperatures remain steady for now, but meteorologists predict a sudden surge in the coming days. Bhubaneswar and nearby regions currently witness partly cloudy skies with chances of rain. However, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph may strike isolated areas.

The IMD highlights that intense heat and humidity will dominate Odisha starting April 12. Officials urge residents to prepare for the upcoming spell by limiting outdoor exposure and staying hydrated. Vulnerable groups such as outdoor workers, elderly citizens, and children face higher risks during this period.

Communities across Odisha express concern as the rising mercury threatens daily life and productivity. Farmers anticipate challenges in fieldwork, while urban residents brace for discomfort in crowded spaces. Health experts emphasise the importance of shade, fluids, and protective clothing to reduce heat-related stress.

Authorities continue monitoring weather patterns and issue advisories to safeguard public health. The forecast signals a difficult week ahead for Odisha, with the sultry spell expected to test resilience across districts.
