The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain, thunderstorm and lightning alerts for several districts in Odisha as the southwest monsoon continues to remain active over the state.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, weather conditions are expected to remain favourable for rainfall and thunderstorm activity across several regions until July 12.
Thunderstorm Alert for Six Districts Today
For Thursday, the IMD has issued a thunderstorm and lightning alert for the following districts:
- Sundargarh
- Angul
- Keonjhar
- Mayurbhanj
- Balasore
- Bhadrak
These districts are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning during the day.
Lightning Warning for Northern Odisha
The weather office has also warned that Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning over the next three days.
Northern Odisha is expected to continue receiving intermittent rainfall and thunderstorm activity over the next four days under the influence of the active southwest monsoon.
IMD Advises Residents to Stay Alert
The IMD has urged residents in the affected districts to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
People have been advised to:
- Avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
- Stay away from open fields and water bodies during lightning.
- Follow weather advisories issued by local authorities.
- Remain indoors whenever possible during intense thunderstorm activity.
Monsoon Brings Relief, Supports Agriculture
The ongoing monsoon activity has brought overcast skies and light rainfall to several parts of Odisha, providing relief from high temperatures.
The rainfall is also expected to benefit the ongoing Kharif cultivation season, improving soil moisture and supporting agricultural activities across the state.
