In a major step toward strengthening academia–industry collaboration in India’s semiconductor ecosystem, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Banashree Semiconductors to advance joint research, innovation, and skill development in next‑generation chip technologies.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Vijay Shankar Pasupureddi, Dean (SRIC), IIT Bhubaneswar, and Dr Chandramohan Umapathy, Director of Banashree Semiconductors, in the presence of Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar. Faculty members Dr. Navjeet Bagga and Dr. Sandeep Kumar Samal from the School of Electrical and Computer Sciences also attended the signing ceremony.
Banashree Semiconductors specialises in advanced silicon‑node, low‑power chip design and optimisation of power, performance, and area (PPA), focusing on reduced transistor‑count architectures for system‑on‑chip (SoC) applications. The collaboration will combine IIT Bhubaneswar’s academic and research strengths with Banashree’s industry expertise to drive innovation in semiconductor design and manufacturing.
Under the five‑year agreement, both institutions will undertake joint R&D projects, develop design‑optimisation flows, and facilitate faculty and student exchanges, internships, and training programmes. They will also explore externally funded research, consultancy projects, and shared use of laboratories, testing infrastructure, and computing resources.
A key focus will be hands‑on industry exposure for students. IIT Bhubaneswar students will gain opportunities for internships and project work at Banashree Semiconductors, while the company’s engineers will participate in collaborative research and academic activities at the institute.
The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industry needs, nurturing skilled manpower and fostering innovation in semiconductor design, fabrication, and allied technologies.
