Taking serious cognisance of the tragic death of a student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Ranchi, the Ministry of Education has constituted a high-level three-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident.
Chaired by Prof. Rajni Abbi, Director of South Campus, University of Delhi, the panel includes a senior psychiatrist and a senior officer from the Ministry of Education. IIIT Ranchi functions as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) institution.
The committee is tasked with thoroughly examining the circumstances surrounding the tragic event and reviewing institutional support systems, medical care access, counselling services, and grievance redressal mechanisms on campus.
It will identify systemic gaps to recommend robust measures that ensure student well-being and prevent future occurrences. The panel will interact with students, faculty, and administrators while reviewing essential records.
Additionally, the Ministry is putting interim administrative arrangements in place to maintain the effective functioning of the institute and prioritise the welfare of its students.
