Police recovered a human skull tied with a cloth and a decomposed skeleton from a forest near Baghmara hill in Kullada under Bhanjanagar police limits in Ganjam district.
The discovery shocked locals after forest dwellers spotted the remains.
Officials confirmed that the skeleton appeared to belong to a male. The skull was found hanging from a tree while the rest of the body lay on the ground. Police seized the remains and sent them to Berhampur FMT for forensic examination.
Investigators revealed that on June 9, a missing person complaint had been filed at the Bhanjanagar police station regarding a man from Mahulpalli village near Birikot. The case was registered as No. 44/26. Based on circumstantial evidence and items recovered from the site, police suspect the skeleton may match the missing person.
Bhanjanagar IIC Jibananda Jena stated that confirmation will depend on forensic reports and further investigation. Range Officer Ramesh Kumar Raut added that one of the suspects, Rabin Mirdha of MPV-65 village, already faces multiple cases.
