The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened three more gates as water flow in the Mahanadi river continues to rise, taking the total number of open gates to eight.
Of the eight gates currently open, five are on the left side and three on the right side of the dam. The reservoir water level stood at 629.56 feet as of the latest update.

According to dam authorities, the decision to open additional gates was taken in view of the rising reservoir level and increasing inflow from the upper catchment areas.
With three more gates opened, authorities are closely monitoring the flow of water downstream of the Mahanadi. The situation is being watched to ensure that excess water is released while downstream conditions remain under observation.
Residents living in riverside and low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert and follow official updates on water levels and any further instructions issued by the administration.
Indravati reservoir gates closed
Meanwhile, all three gates of the Indravati reservoir have been closed.
However, one gate of the Muran dam remains open to facilitate the discharge of water.
Authorities continue to monitor reservoir levels and water flow across the affected systems as rainfall and inflows influence conditions in the region.
