The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh heavy rainfall warning for Odisha, placing the entire state under weather alerts for Thursday, August 6.
The forecast indicates widespread rain, with an Orange Warning for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts and a Yellow Warning for the remaining 28 districts.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places, prompting residents to remain alert as wet weather conditions continue across the state.
Thunderstorms and Lightning Likely in 13 Districts
The IMD has also issued a nowcast warning for the next three hours, forecasting rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in parts of 13 districts.
The districts under the short-term weather alert are:
- Keonjhar
- Kandhamal
- Mayurbhanj
- Balasore
- Bhadrak
- Gajapati
- Ganjam
- Koraput
- Nayagarh
- Jajpur
- Cuttack
- Kalahandi
- Kendrapara
People living in these areas have been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open fields and water bodies, and follow official weather advisories.
Rainfall Expected to Ease on Friday
The IMD has forecast a slight reduction in rainfall activity across Odisha on Friday, August 7. However, rainfall alerts will remain in effect for 20 districts, while no weather warnings have been issued for the remaining 10 districts.
Rainfall is expected to decrease, particularly over the southern and western parts of the state, though intermittent showers may continue in several regions.

With above-normal monsoon activity continuing across Odisha, authorities have urged residents to monitor official weather updates and exercise caution, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and during periods of thunderstorms and lightning.
