In a disturbing incident, police have arrested a government employee for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 69-year-old woman under the Nayahat police outpost limits in Odisha’s Puri district.
The accused, identified as Indramani Parida, works as a peon at Arei High School.
According to police sources, the survivor—a resident of Mahanipur village in the Isanpur panchayat—was forcefully dragged off a public road by the accused towards a nearby cremation ground, where he attempted to assault her.
Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged at the Nayahat police outpost. Taking swift action, Nayahat Outpost In-Charge Srikanta Sahu launched an investigation and subsequently apprehended Parida, who also hails from Mahanipur village.
A case (No. 309/26) was registered at the Gop Police Station. The accused was produced in court on Sunday, where his bail plea was rejected, following which the honorable court remanded him to judicial custody.
