On the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, Google has unveiled a special Doodle featuring a vibrant tile artwork to celebrate the nation’s progress and cultural richness.
The Doodle, released on August 15, 2025, highlights a series of significant national achievements, from advancements in space exploration to victories in sports and global recognition in cinema.
The tile artwork, created by artists Makarand Narkar and Sonal Vasave of Boomranng Studio, is a visual tribute to India’s “unity in diversity.” The different tiles are rendered in various regional artistic styles, such as the distinct blue pottery of Jaipur and the terracotta relief work of West Bengal. This artistic choice symbolizes the blend of diverse cultures that form the country’s identity.
According to the description provided with the Doodle, the imagery depicts India’s journey as the world’s largest democracy, a path forged by “prominent figures who championed civil disobedience and nonviolent protests.” The artwork also showcases modern milestones, including space missions, world chess championships, cricketing glories, and international film accolades, representing a comprehensive view of India’s accomplishments on the global stage.
As the nation celebrates its freedom from nearly two centuries of British rule, festivities are set to be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will address the country from the historic Red Fort in Delhi after unfurling the national flag. Across India, citizens are marking the day with patriotic songs, cultural performances, and the flying of tricolor kites, all of which honor the nation’s past and celebrate its future.
