A Ganjam district court sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the murder of Munna Das of Tera Gaonja village under Gopalpur police limits.
District Judge Ashant Kumar Das delivered the verdict, convicting Pradeep Das (28) and Narayan Das (40). The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each convict, with an additional one-year rigorous imprisonment in case of default.
The case dates back to March 13, 2024, when Pradeep Das and Bikari Das engaged in a quarrel near a liquor shop. Munna intervened to pacify them, but Pradeep, enraged, attacked him with a sharp weapon. Narayan Das joined the assault. Munna sustained serious injuries and was rushed to MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, before being shifted to SCB Medical College, Cuttack, where he succumbed during treatment.
Police registered Gopalpur PS Case No. 108/24, arrested the accused, and filed charges. During the trial, statements of 16 witnesses were recorded. Based on evidence, the court convicted both accused and awarded life imprisonment.
