Ganjam district witnessed a disturbing incident in Sar Nuapalli village under Belguntha police station.

A man allegedly killed his wife with a sharp weapon and later took his own life by hanging from a tree about 200 meters from his house.

The deceased husband, Chitrasen Nayak (35), married Puja Das seven years ago in a love marriage. The couple had two children. Puja had been working in Bhubaneswar for the past six months and returned to the village on April 5 for bank-related work.

On the night of April 6, a heated quarrel broke out between the couple. Police said Chitrasen attacked Puja with a paniki (sharp weapon), inflicting multiple injuries. Seeing her lifeless body, he lost his mental balance and hanged himself from a tree nearby.

Belguntha police reached the spot on Tuesday morning after receiving information and began an investigation. SDPO Dr Deepak Kumar Mishra confirmed that both deaths are being probed from all angles, including the reasons behind the marital discord.
