Bhubaneswar: Renowned freedom fighter Niranjan Mohapatra breathed his last on Saturday morning. He was 86.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and several other leaders expressed their condolences. The Odisha CM took to Twitter and wrote:

ଶତାୟୁ ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା ସଂଗ୍ରାମୀ ନିରଞ୍ଜନ ମହାପାତ୍ରଙ୍କ ଦେହାନ୍ତ ବିଷୟରେ ଜାଣି ମୁଁ ଦୁଃଖିତ। ତାଙ୍କ ଅମାପ ଦେଶପ୍ରେମ ଓ ତ୍ୟାଗ ସର୍ବଦା ସ୍ମରଣୀୟ ରହିବ। ତାଙ୍କ ଅମର ଆତ୍ମାର ସଦଗତି କାମନା କରିବା ସହ ଶୋକସନ୍ତପ୍ତ ପରିବାରବର୍ଗଙ୍କୁ ମୋର ସମବେଦନା ଜଣାଉଛି।

Born to Khitishchandra Mohapatra and Munima Devi at Bolang village, Niranjan was moved by the call of Mahatma Gandhi. He dropped out of Class V and joined the freedom struggle.
Mohapatra had taken part in the Quit India Movement of 1942 and moved from village to village propagating the Swadeshi Movement.
