A routine vehicle checking drive by the Ganjam Police led to the arrest of four persons after one of them allegedly threatened police personnel by brandishing a pistol at Bhanjanagar in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday.
The incident took place near Chakara Bisoyi Square, where police officials were conducting regular vehicle inspections as part of intensified enforcement and security measures.
Police overpower accused, seize firearm and ammunition
According to police, the accused confronted the checking team and allegedly displayed a pistol in an attempt to intimidate the officers on duty.
Acting swiftly, the police overpowered the armed individual and apprehended him along with three associates, preventing the situation from escalating.
During the operation, police seized a pistol, one magazine, two live cartridges, multiple mobile phones, and two motorcycles allegedly used by the accused.
Investigation underway into criminal links
The four accused have been taken into custody, and police have launched a detailed investigation to verify their criminal antecedents and determine whether they were involved in any other unlawful activities.
Officials said further inquiries are underway to establish the source of the illegal firearm and examine possible links to other criminal cases.

Following the incident, police have stepped up vehicle checking and surveillance in the area to curb illegal possession of firearms and strengthen public safety.
