Former Tehsildar, Ex-Peon Convicted In Bribery Case; Get Rigorous Imprisonment

Bhubaneswar: The Court of Special Vigilance Judge in Keonjhar today convicted the former Tehsildar (Retired) of Patna in Keonjhar and Ex-Peon (Retired), in a bribery case and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and 1 year respectively.

Today i.e. on 25.08.2023, Pradeep Kumar Nayak, Ex-Tahasildar (Retired), Patna Tahasil, Dist-Keonjhar and Sri Biswanath Naik, Ex-Peon (Retired), Office of Tahasildar Patana, Keonjhar, who were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a Case vide Spl. Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar TR No.24/2011 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/ 7/12 PC Act, 1988 for demanding and accepting the bribe from a complainant for issuance of RoR (Patta) in 5 mutation cases, were convicted by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar.

The Court sentenced the convict Ex-Tahasildar Pradeep Kumar Nayak, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay a fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of P.C. Act,1988. The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay a fine of Rs.2,000/- and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months for the offence U/s 7 of the PC Act,1988.

The Court sentenced the other convict, Ex-Peon Biswanath Naik, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and to pay a fine of Rs.2,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 12 P.C. Act,1988.

All the substantive sentences are to run concurrently, the court ruled.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority forstoppage of pension of both the convicts namely Pradeep Kumar Nayak, Ex-Tahasildar and Biswanath Naik, Ex-Peon following their conviction.

Sarat Chandra Sahoo, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Balasore Division investigated the case and Debadutta Biswal, Spl. P.P., Vigilance, and Keonjhar conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
