Former Odisha minister and veteran politician Damburudhar Majhi passed away while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital on Sunday. He was suffering from age-related ailments.
Majhi had a long political career spanning several decades and served in the Odisha state cabinet four times between 1967 and 1990.
During his tenure as a minister, he handled important portfolios including Transport, Finance and Culture.
Four-time minister in Odisha government
Majhi was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the erstwhile Kodigan Assembly constituency, which is now known as the Dabugam Assembly constituency.
His political career saw him associate with several political parties over the years. He was affiliated with the Swatantra Party, Indian National Congress, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Contested Lok Sabha election
In 2009, Majhi contested the Nabarangpur Lok Sabha constituency on a BJD ticket. However, he was unsuccessful in the election.
He later severed ties with the BJD and joined the BJP in October 2018.
Majhi’s demise marks the end of a long political journey in Odisha, during which he held ministerial responsibilities across multiple departments and remained active in the state’s political landscape for decades.
