Five security personnel sustained injuries when a pressure improvised explosive device (IED), planted by Naxalites, detonated in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday, according to police reports.
The explosion took place in the Tarrem police station area during a demining operation conducted by a team from the Chinngelur CRPF camp, the police said.
The demining operation, aimed at locating and neutralizing IEDs, led to the discovery of a wire attached to a pressure IED. While attempting to investigate the bomb linked to the wire, it detonated, resulting in shrapnel wounds to five members of the team, the police added.
The injured personnel received initial medical care before being transferred to the Bijapur district hospital.
