Odisha has reported a fresh COVID‑19 case in Ganjam district, raising concerns of possible spread after recent infections in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
A woman undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur has tested positive for the virus, according to hospital sources.
The development comes on the heels of Andhra Pradesh reporting 12 COVID‑19 infections between June 26 and July 16, with four fatalities linked to the outbreak. The detection of a case in Odisha has heightened public concern, particularly in border districts where vigilance has already been stepped up.
In response, the Dept of H&FW has duly noted the COVID-19 situation. “As per information received from GOI based on independent assessment by IDSP and ICMR, the current data points to low, seasonal upstick with no cause for panic. Routine surveillance and standard clinical vigilance will be maintained and situation will be monitored closely as per GOI protocol,” the dept said.
