New Delhi: Attending the Farmer-Scientist Interface session of the 16th Agricultural Science Congress on Thursday, farmers from various parts of the nation demand fair pricing and a reliable market for their produce.

The farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep Islands attended the meet hosted by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). They discussed their challenges and shared their success stories.

They highlighted the importance of considering the needs and challenges faced by small and medium-scale farmers. While formulating agricultural development policies, the government should focus on fair pricing, market access, and financial support for the farming sector.

Apart from this, the farmers mentioned the significance of social dignity, especially in dealing with financial institutions and government offices.

They called for developing local varieties of paddy and providing interest-free loans to farmer-producer organizations (FPOs). They also advocated publicizing farmers’ produce to enhance their market reach.

The farmers shared their concerns about falling prices and disease outbreaks to emphasize the urgency of addressing agricultural communities’ challenges across the represented regions.
