Bhubaneswar: As many as five state excise department officials were injured after being attacked by the liquor mafia during a raid on an illegal liquor manufacturing unit at the Bharatpur area in Bhubaneswar.
Acting on reliable inputs regarding the trade at the area during the lockdown time, a team of the Bhubaneswar excise department along with the police personnel conducted a raid at a den and tried to seize the contrabands.
While conducting the raid, a group of people heckled and beat up the officials severely with sticks and iron rods.
Following this, at least five of them critically injured and admitted to a nearby hospital. The attackers also ransacked the vehicle belonging to the excise sleuths.
Meanwhile, based on the complaint lodged by the Excise sleuths, a case also has been registered against the accused persons who were involved in the assault and further investigations are underway.
