A major mishap occurred during an eviction drive in Bhubaneswar’s Unit‑2 area when a government quarter wall collapsed on an elderly man, leaving him critically injured.
According to eyewitnesses, a JCB machine was engaged in demolishing the quarters when the incident took place. The elderly man was reportedly lying on a cot inside the structure when the wall suddenly gave way, trapping him underneath.
Locals rushed to rescue the victim and shifted him to Capital Hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be serious.
Residents alleged that authorities failed to ensure proper safety measures before starting the demolition. They claimed no thorough check was conducted to confirm whether anyone was inside the quarters before the JCB began operations.
The administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident, even as questions are being raised about negligence during the eviction drive.
