Iranian state-controlled media has released a short, undated video of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, amid continued speculation about his health and whereabouts.
The 12-second clip was shared by Iran’s Mehr news agency and shows Mojtaba Khamenei seated on a carpet inside a closed room while interacting with people around him.
The video has emerged months after he was reportedly injured in a US-Israeli strike that killed his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei.
What does the new Mojtaba Khamenei video show?
The newly released footage shows Mojtaba Khamenei wearing a black turban and a light grey robe over white clothing.
He appears to be speaking with people seated around him. However, the video does not provide any information about when or where it was recorded.
Mehr described it as a video of Mojtaba Khamenei released for the first time. However, the lack of a date or location has left questions about when the footage was actually filmed.
The video therefore does not independently establish Mojtaba Khamenei’s current health condition.
Why is Mojtaba Khamenei’s health under scrutiny?
Mojtaba Khamenei has remained largely out of public view since the start of the US-Iran conflict.
Reports have claimed that he suffered serious facial and leg injuries in the February 28 attack that killed his father, Ali Khamenei. However, details about his condition have not been independently verified.
Iranian state media previously released similar footage.
On March 20, state broadcaster IRIB published another video showing Mojtaba Khamenei apparently delivering religious lessons. That footage, too, did not specify when or where it was recorded.
Mojtaba Khamenei’s limited public appearances
Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed Iran’s Supreme Leader on March 8, according to the report.
Since then, he has issued written statements through state-run media but has remained largely absent from public view.
His limited visibility has fuelled speculation about his health and ability to perform his duties.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently acknowledged that communication with Mojtaba was difficult but described his presence as an important source of strength for the country.
Pezeshkian also criticised what he described as attempts to portray Mojtaba differently amid the ongoing conflict.
What did Donald Trump claim about Mojtaba Khamenei?
US President Donald Trump has also made claims about Mojtaba Khamenei’s condition.
Trump previously said that Mojtaba was “90 per cent gone”, while Israeli media reports have separately claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader was in poor health.
However, these claims have not been independently established.
The latest video appears intended to show Mojtaba Khamenei in public view, but its undated nature means it cannot confirm his present health status.
Questions remain over Mojtaba Khamenei’s whereabouts
The release of the footage may ease some speculation, but several questions remain unanswered.
Iranian authorities have not publicly stated when the video was recorded or provided details about Mojtaba Khamenei’s current medical condition.
As tensions surrounding the US-Iran conflict continue, his health and ability to lead Iran are likely to remain closely watched.
For now, the newly released footage offers a glimpse of Mojtaba Khamenei but does not independently confirm when it was filmed or provide definitive evidence about his current health.
