An Emirates flight bound for Dubai was forced to return to Cochin International Airport in Kerala on Monday following a security incident that led to the temporary closure of Dubai International Airport.
The flight, Emirates EK533, departed Kochi at 4:30 am carrying 325 passengers and crew members. However, it was instructed to turn back after authorities halted operations at Dubai airport due to a security threat.
Passengers Asked to Remain On Board
Airport officials said passengers were requested to remain on board while authorities reviewed the situation in Dubai.
According to a spokesperson, the aircraft may resume its journey if airport operations restart.
“Passengers are advised to remain on board while the situation at DXB is reviewed. If the airport resumes operations, the return service will continue,” the spokesperson said.
Drone Strike Reported Near Dubai Airport
The disruption reportedly followed a drone strike near Dubai airport, which hit a fuel tank and triggered a fire close to the airport premises.
The incident forced authorities to temporarily suspend operations at Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest aviation hubs in the world.
Some flights were diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central.

Flight disruptions have been reported periodically since the outbreak of the US–Iran conflict escalation 2026 in the region.
Officials in the United Arab Emirates said the country has intercepted more than 1,600 drones and over 300 missiles reportedly launched by Iran since the conflict began.
Amid rising tensions, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reportedly urged people to avoid certain strategic locations in the region, including key ports in the UAE.

Airlines and aviation authorities are closely monitoring the situation around Dubai’s airspace.
Travelers heading to Dubai have been advised to check flight status and avoid unnecessary travel to the airport until normal operations resume.
