A tense situation unfolded in Rayagada district when a drunk youth climbed a Jio mobile tower and threatened to end his life.
The youth, identified as Til Kashi (25), son of Kartik Kashi from Kumbar Sahi in Mathura Nagar, scaled the 160-foot tower on Monday afternoon. Witnesses said he shouted threats to jump while clinging to the steel structure. Locals immediately alerted the fire department, which rushed to the spot.
Firefighters and police officers, including Kalpana Behera and SI Sanjay Pattnaik, reached the site and began persuading the youth to come down. After nearly an hour of negotiation, the rescue team safely brought him down and took him to the police station for questioning.
Eyewitnesses said Til had attempted a similar act the previous day but was stopped by locals. His father confirmed that he had been struggling with alcohol addiction and emotional distress. The incident drew a large crowd as residents gathered to watch the rescue operation.
