US President Donald Trump confirmed that American B-1 bombers were relocated from the RAF Fairford airbase in Britain back to the United States as a precautionary measure against an “Iran-linked threat.”
According to reports on Monday, Trump said intelligence about a potential threat prompted the quick move of the aircraft. When directly asked if the threat was linked to Iran, Trump affirmed, “They would be linked to Iran.”
The redeployment follows an investigation into a suspected terror plot at RAF Fairford, during which British authorities arrested a dual British-Iranian national in London last week.
While six individuals were initially detained and later released, the incident prompted the Pentagon to fly the bombers back to their domestic bases.
Vice President JD Vance echoed caution, noting that the administration remains vigilant against long-standing Iranian state activities.
However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio downplayed a direct correlation, describing the move as routine resource reallocation.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi dismissed allegations of state involvement as baseless. The B-1 bombers had previously been deployed at the British base to execute strikes against Iran.
