In view of the upcoming elections for different offices of the Students’ Union and student societies across universities and degree colleges for the Academic Session 2026-27, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Central Range, Kataka, has issued exhaustive directives to Superintendents of Police (SsP) across all districts within the range.
The primary mandate focuses on guaranteeing a peaceful, free, fair, and orderly electoral process without disturbing the academic atmosphere of the institutions.
Proactive Policing and Sensitive Zone Mapping
District police units have been instructed to adopt proactive and preventive measures in close coordination with university and college administrations. Authorities have been directed to map out sensitive and vulnerable educational hot spots, evaluate prevailing law-and-order dynamics, and calibrate security deployments accordingly. Adequate police forces will be positioned at polling booths, vote-counting centres, and high-footfall locations.
Special emphasis has been placed on clamping down on disruptive elements. Strict enforcement measures will target group clashes, intimidation, unlawful assemblies, and any actions capable of vitiating campus peace.
Collaborative Administration and Strict Neutrality
The IGP stressed the importance of seamless liaison between district SSPs and academic heads—including Vice-Chancellors, Registrars, and Principals. Pre-election coordination meetings are being mandated to evaluate security requirements well in advance.
Furthermore, police personnel have been strictly instructed to maintain absolute neutrality and impartiality. Law enforcement will ensure that every candidate and student enjoys a secure, fear-free environment to exercise their democratic rights. Officials made it clear that any violations of law, irrespective of the political or organisational affiliation of the offenders, will face strict and immediate legal action.
Traffic Management and Public Appeal
To manage heavy student turnouts, robust plans for traffic regulation, crowd control, and emergency response are being finalised around prominent educational institutions.
Authorities reiterated that the core objective of the security apparatus extends beyond mere law and order; it is designed to nurture democratic participation while preserving the sanctity of education. Concluding the directive, the Central Range Police have appealed to students, candidates, and student bodies to prioritise discipline, mutual respect, and cooperation with authorities for a smooth electoral exercise.
