Dhenkanal: Police have arrested the mastermind behind Rs 26.56 lakh cash loot from an SBI ATM at Nimabahali Square under Motanga police limits in Dhenkanal district on December 15 last year.
The accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar Mohanty of Balasore district. He was arrested from outside the State, the police said, and added that cash and other valuables worth Rs 4.25 lakh were also seized from his possession.
The police said that around six ATM loot cases are registered against Mohanty at various police stations in the state. Four persons were arrested earlier in this connection and another accused in the case is still on the run.
As per reports, the police will seek remand of the arrested persons for further interrogation into the case and efforts are underway to nab the absconder.
It may be mentioned here that the accused persons broke open the cash dispensing unit of an SBI ATM at Nimabahali Square, on the intervening night of December 14 and 15 last year, with the help of a gas cutter and decamped with the entire cash available in the kiosk.
