Jharsuguda: A tragic accident occurred during the Rath Yatra resulting in the death of a devotee while pulling the chariot in Sadar Block Kukujangha of Jharsuguda district.
The individual has been identified as 45-year-old Shyam Sundar Kisan from the Chatabahal area under Mahulpali police station in Sambalpur district.
On Sunday evening, while the chariot was being pulled, it tilted to one side causing the devotee to fall under its wheel. He sustained severe injuries as the chariot’s wheel rolled over him.
He was rushed to the district’s main hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries during the treatment, reported the attending doctor.
The Badamal police station has registered a case of unnatural death and has initiated an investigation into the incident. The authorities have stated that the deceased’s body will be returned to his family following a postmortem examination tomorrow.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of the departed soul. The CM also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakhs for the family of the deceased.
