Odisha’s Debrigarh Tiger Reserve will soon welcome two new tigers, Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia announced today.
The minister confirmed that the state is coordinating with the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to bring the tigers from Similipal. He stressed that local community cooperation is crucial for the success of this effort, noting that discussions with villagers are already underway. Without their support, ensuring tiger safety and breeding will remain difficult.
Earlier, tigresses Yamuna and Jinat were relocated from Similipal to Debrigarh. However, breeding has not yet taken place. Singhkhuntia remarked that luck did not favour the breeding process, but the government’s efforts continue.
Currently, authorities are monitoring the existing tigers using GPS collars and camera traps. With the arrival of the new tigers, officials expect a boost in population growth and conservation activities at Debrigarh.
