The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) announced that darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra will remain suspended for four hours on Monday, March 9, 2026, due to the sacred Khasapada Lagi ritual.
The ritual will be observed on Chaitra Krushna Sashthi Tithi. After the completion of the second Bhogamandap Bhog, darshan will remain closed from 6 pm to 10 pm. Temple authorities confirmed that darshan will resume after the ritual concludes, allowing devotees to have access during the night hours.
The Khasapada Lagi ritual is performed two to three times a year. During this observance, the holy feet of the deities are covered with white cloth, symbolising purity and devotion. Entry into the sanctum sanctorum will remain restricted during the ritual, and devotees will not be able to view the deities.
The temple administration urged devotees to plan their visit accordingly and cooperate with officials during the scheduled ritual. They emphasised that such observances are integral to Jagannath culture and tradition, ensuring the continuity of age-old practices.
