The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cleared two major upcoming theatrical releases, Daayra and Vibe, granting an ‘Adults Only’ (‘A’) rating to both feature films. Both movies are scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on September 18.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, Daayra stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. According to the official censor certificate, the investigative thriller has a certified runtime of 143 minutes and 16 seconds (2 hours, 23 minutes, and 16 seconds).
The ‘A’ certification marks Kareena Kapoor Khan’s tenth film to receive an adult rating throughout her career. Her previous nine adult-certified features include Ajnabee (2001), Chameli (2003), Dev (2004), Omkara (2006), Kurbaan (2009), Heroine (2012), Udta Punjab (2016), Veere Di Wedding (2018), and The Buckingham Murders (2024).
Simultaneously, the CBFC cleared Vibe, a comic caper directed by and starring Kunal Khemu. The CBFC website lists Vibe with a runtime of 145 minutes and 55 seconds (2 hours, 25 minutes, and 55 seconds).
Alongside Kunal Khemu, the film features an ensemble cast comprising Preity G Zinta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Vanshika Dhir, Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua), and Yashpal Sharma. This marks Preity G Zinta’s second release following her theatrical comeback after Batwara 1947, which hit screens last month and also received an ‘A’ rating.
The adult certification for Vibe has surprised trade analysts, given that Khemu’s previous directorial effort, Madgaon Express (2024), earned a broader U/A certification.
“Daayra’s ‘A’ rating is understandable as the film deals with a theme suitable for mature audiences,” noted an industry insider. “However, Vibe looks like a fun entertainer in the zone of Madgaon Express, so its adult certification will come as a surprise to many.”
