The heavy downpours and strong winds sweeping across Odisha have prompted authorities to take immediate precautionary measures.
Several district administrations have declared a complete shutdown of educational institutions today under the influence of Cyclone Arnab, prioritising the safety and well-being of students.
In Nayagada, the district administration has extended its weather-related holiday. District Collector Madhumita Rath announced that all schools and colleges will remain closed for the day as heavy rains and gusty winds continue to lash the region.
Similarly, in Subarnapur, continuous rainfall forced the closure of all government and private schools, alongside Anganwadi centres. District Education Officer Ghanshyam Meher issued the closure directive following direct instructions from the District Collector.
Apprehending heavy to very heavy downpours, the Kalahandi district administration has likewise ordered all schools and Anganwadi units to remain shut. This mandate applies comprehensively across all government, aided, and private institutions, including Adarsha Vidyalayas, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and Eklavya schools. Officials clarified that while students enjoy a safety-mandated holiday, teachers and staff are expected to attend as usual.
The closure wave also extends to Boudh district, where local authorities have similarly suspended classes for the day. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor local weather updates as Cyclone Arnab continues to influence the region’s climate.
