In response to the impending threat of Cyclone Arnab, Odisha’s Energy Department has ramped up disaster preparedness across southern and coastal districts for the critical window of October 26 to 29, 2026.
Highlighting a zero-casualty mandate, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo chaired a high-level review meeting to evaluate operational readiness and grid resilience. To ensure direct, real-time governance, the Deputy Chief Minister will station himself on the ground in Koraput to oversee emergency operations.
To guarantee rapid power recovery, OPTCL has activated a multi-tier strategic command network. This includes a 24×7 central control room at STAMC Chandaka, zonal oversight at Narendrapur, and 11 strategic field control centres spanning vulnerable areas like Malkangiri, Paradeep, and Baleshwar. Ground teams are proactively reinforced with heavy material stockpiles, including emergency tower sets, 1,115 kilometres of conductors, and thousands of hardware fittings.
Power restoration will follow a strict priority framework once weather conditions allow, placing immediate focus on essential public infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and cyclone shelters. Citizens will receive transparent recovery timelines through automated SMS alerts. For assistance, TPSODL has established a Central Emergency Control Centre at Berhampur, reachable at 9124293314 or via toll-free numbers 1912 and 18002026. Senior officials, including ACS Energy Shri Vishal Kumar Dev, attended the strategic briefing, reaffirming the state’s dedication to safeguarding public safety.
