The Indian Army’s official fact-checking unit has debunked a digitally manipulated deepfake video circulating on social media that falsely attributed remarks regarding Chinese territorial gains in Arunachal Pradesh to Lieutenant General Girish Kalia.
The misleading clip alleged a “leaked admission” by Lt Gen Kalia, claiming China had taken control of Asaphila, Longju, and Taksing Circle, while alleging that deployed Indian troops were denied essential supplies.
Clarifying the matter on X, the Army stated that the video used synthetic-generated technology—including AI-enabled lip-syncing and voice cloning—overlaid on authentic archival footage to spread military disinformation and create unwarranted panic.
