The Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack has released a comprehensive set of cyber safety guidelines, aiming to protect citizens from online scams and fraudulent activities.
The advisory, shared via the police’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter), emphasises the need for personal vigilance in the digital age. The police urge individuals to safeguard their social media accounts by enabling two-factor authentication and avoiding oversharing of sensitive information.
Other key recommendations include using strong, unique passwords, steering clear of public Wi-Fi without a VPN, and exercising caution when clicking on unfamiliar links. Citizens are also advised to remain alert against digital arrest scams, where fraudsters impersonate officials to extort victims.
The police encourage immediate reporting of suspected cybercrimes via the national cybercrime portal or the helpline number 1930.
