India celebrated a remarkable double podium finish in para athletics at the Commonwealth Games 2026, as Soman Rana clinched gold and Shubham Juyal secured silver in the men’s shot put F57 final at the EDF Scotstoun Stadium.
Rana, entering the competition as a strong contender with a personal best of 15.17m, delivered throws of 14.07m and 13.40m to secure the top spot. Juyal, making his CWG debut, impressed with a throw of 13.28m, earning silver against a competitive international field.
The F57 classification, designed for athletes with lower limb impairments competing in seated throwing events, demands explosive strength, technique, and consistency. Both Indian athletes showcased these qualities, underlining the nation’s growing depth in para athletics.
Rana, already decorated with medals from major international competitions, added a CWG gold to his career achievements. Meanwhile, Juyal, an Indian Army athlete, reinforced his reputation as one of India’s rising stars in the F57 category.
Their performances highlighted India’s continued progress in para sports, with experienced athletes and emerging talents combining to strengthen the nation’s campaign at the Glasgow Games.
