A tragic accident claimed the life of a CRPF jawan at the Babudera camp in Odisha’s Saranda forest under Jaraikela police limits in Sundargarh district.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night when a large tree collapsed onto the camp.
Rakesh Kumar, a constable of the CoBRA 210 Battalion, was resting inside the camp when the tree suddenly fell. The impact struck him on the head, leaving him critically injured. Fellow personnel immediately rushed him to a hospital in Ranchi for treatment. Doctors initiated emergency care, but Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Security personnel expressed deep grief over the loss, describing it as an irreparable blow to the force. The camp authorities informed senior officials, and the local administration began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Officials from the CRPF and district administration visited the site to assess the damage and review safety measures. The department plans to strengthen precautionary arrangements at forest camps to prevent similar incidents.
The tragic death of Rakesh Kumar has cast a shadow over the CoBRA unit stationed in the region. His colleagues remembered him as a dedicated and disciplined soldier who served with courage and commitment.
