Cuttack: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested the Junior Engineer Bansidhara Sethi of Rural Works Division In Berhampur of Ganjam on charges of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income.
Simultaneous house searches were conducted at 5 places in Ganjam district on 28.12.2021 by 5 teams of Odisha Vigilance led by 2 DSsP, 6 Inspectors and other staff on the strength of Search Warrants issued against JE Bansidhara Sethi by the Vigilance Special Judge Berhampur on the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate.
During the house search, a triple storeyed building at Shakti Nagar, Berhampur, 5 numbers of plots at Nimakhandi and Ambapua in Berhampur Town, 2 number of two-wheelers, Insurance deposits worth Rs.10.46 Lakh, gold & silver ornaments worth Rs.10 Lakh and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling to over Rs 1.17 Crore were unearthed by the Vigilance.
After a thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of accused Junior Engineer Bansidhara Sethi, were calculated and he was found in possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income to the tune of 137% of his known sources of income.
As Bansidhara Sethi, JE, RW Section-I, Digapahandi under Rural Works Division-II, Berhampur, Dist-Ganjam was found in possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily, Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No.20 dt.29.12.2021 was registered against him and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018.
In course of the investigation, today i.e. on 29.12.2021, Bansidhara Sethi, JE was arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur. The Hon’ble Court has remanded him to judicial custody till 11.01.2022. Investigation of the case is in progress, read a press note from the Odisha Vigilance Directorate, Cuttack.
