Bhubaneswar: Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, which reached Odisha today, will be administered to people residing in the State capital Bhubaneswar, informed Odisha Health Director and Vaccine In-charge Dr Bijay Panigrahi today.
While Covaxin will be administered to people in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area, Covishield of Serum Institute of India (SII) will be given to shortlisted people in all other districts across the state, Panigrahi said.
A total of 3, 38,777 healthcare workers have been shortlisted for the immunization drive in the state. Out of these, 1,92,555 frontline workers will be vaccinated in the first phase.
The vials of Covaxin, manufactured in Hyderabad by Bharat Biotech and Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), were transported to the state vaccine store here amid tight security today.
Meanwhile, the state administration has started dispatching its first consignment of Covid-19 vaccine Covishield to all the 30 districts in the state.
