Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday sealed several haats and markets including the Unit-II Market Building for 48 hours after scores of shoppers were spotted flouting COVID-19 norms.
A joint team of the BMC and Commissionerate Police reached the marketplace this evening to inspect compliance of COVID appropriate behaviour being followed by the citizens as well as the shopkeepers.
However, the enforcement squad noticed violations of COVID precautionary measures and sealed the Unit-II Market Building for 48 hours in the presence of city DCP & BMC Zonal Commissioner.
According to BMC’s Enforcement Update, the following market and haats have been sealed in Bhubaneswar for 48 hours due to violation of COVID-19 guidelines:
South-East Zone:
- Market Building, Unit 2 closed for 48 Hours for violation of Social Distancing Guidelines
- Non Veg Fast Food Lane in Bapuji Nagar sealed by BMC for 48 hrs in view of Social Distancing Violations
South-West Zone:
- Non-veg market at Rental chhaka
- 12 roadside eateries in ID Market Nayapalli, one fruits shop in Ruchika Market, Baramunda
- Some roadside eateries
North Zone:
- VSS Nagar Market
- 6 roadside eateries in Damana Square, Patia Square
The Daily COVID-19 positive cases breached the 1K mark in Bhubaneswar today with 1,044 positive cases and 447 recoveries in the last 24 hours.
Bhubaneswar has been witnessing a sharp rise in COVID-19 infection and the civic body and city police have stepped up the enforcement of COVID norms to keep the deadly infection at bay.
