Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) will host its first‑ever Raja Mahotsav from June 14 to 16 at the lower Bali Jatra ground.
The event will combine traditional Raja celebrations with cultural performances and awareness programmes focused on women’s hygiene and empowerment.
CMC has planned free Raja pana and poda pitha counters, evening cultural shows, and felicitation of women achievers from diverse fields. Mayor Subhas Chandra Singh said the festival aims to unite families across generations. “Raja connects mothers, daughters, students, and teachers. We want everyone to celebrate together while honouring women who inspire the city,” he said.
Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota announced workshops and discussions on menstrual hygiene and awareness. “These topics often remain confined within homes. Raja, a festival celebrating womanhood, offers the right platform to encourage open conversations,” she said.
Girls from nearly 200 slums will receive gift coupons through slum committees. CMC will also promote safe disposal of sanitary waste by encouraging women to use red boxes attached to municipal waste vehicles.
