A violent clash over plucking moringa leaves claimed the life of a youth in Kendrapara district on Thursday.

The incident occurred under Pattamundai model police station limits, shocking residents of Kajalabandh village.

The victim, identified as Kailash Mallick, got caught in a fight between two families at Ishanipalli village under Rajnagar police station. The dispute began on Wednesday when Prabhakar Nayak and his brother Pratap Nayak argued over harvesting moringa.

Reports said Pratap’s son, Sushant Nayak, gathered around 10 to 15 youths from nearby villages and attacked Prabhakar’s elder son. During the clash, Kailash sustained severe stab injuries. Locals rushed him to Rajnagar Community Health Centre, and later to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police launched an investigation into the Kendrapara moringa clash, examining how the family feud spiralled into deadly violence. Officials confirmed that the brothers already had a land dispute pending in court.
